AJ`s Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern in Homer

I came from Texas to visit my Daughter in Anchorage. Rode trip to Homer was a must ! The service here was so horrible it was hard to even enjoy a meal, Catherine was so angry when I wrote a review about her, she refused to serve me at The Salty Dawg she she works as well !! We had been there for several hours and when they switched shifts, she was just as rude and ignorant !!! To bad.. there are no negative stars to give .

The food was outstanding. Everything we had was just top notch. What always impresses me the most is how much they care about their customers. Our waitress made sure things will were perfect and that we were happy. Even the owner stopped by a couple times and because I had to say something, to show my appreciation, she took the time to share some of the local history and personal experiences.

Delicious food and such a fun atmosphere! Homer has some great scenic moments, and with a big wall of windows you can see such a beautiful sunset. Live music some days of the week and daily specials to enjoy!

We have been passing through Homer for years and finally found this off the main drag restaurant. Wonderful steak and seafood and great service! Since it was our 32nd wedding anniversary it was the perfect place for our celebratory dinner!

Ate here while in town visiting from Anchorage. We made a reservation for 7:15 pm and got there around 6:45 pm, they were able to get us in early and we had a wonderful meal. Wait staff is on top of refilling drinks and clearing plates and the filet was amazing! Great great experience!

Fantastic food and service. Had the prime rib and the blue cheese chips. Tasty and well prepared.

We showed up 15 minutes early for a 7:30 Opentable reservation on a Saturday night and were seated right away. The place was packed. Regardless, service was great. Our meal took a little extra time given the crowd. Calamari was good, dinner salad was good, (not iceberg, wow ) steaks were great. Desserts were great. Love this restaurant. If we lived here would we go regularly.

Amazing food! The atmosphere was awesome and the staff was very friendly. Couldn't have asked for a better experience! This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants!

OMG! Why only 4.5?!! This place is a 10. Abagail is a great server. Fish and chips great. Fettuccine Alfredo - holy heck! Best pasta!!

Delightful restaurant in Homer. This restaurant has friendly staff and good food. Overall, this small town restaurant would rival any restaurant in a metropolitan area.Thankfully, the kitchen was still open when I arrived at nearly 10 p.m. My choice for entree was the bay scallop dinner. The scallops were great, grilled on one side and overall not overly cooked. The sides included green beans and potatoes. The dish overall was good.

The Staff was awesome. It was a full house which made it a little longer wait but our food was very good a little pricey but delicious overall if I could give 4.5 stars I would have. It's a great atmosphere along with its extensive wine list and great desserts really nice experience I highly recommend it and I will return for sure..

Not the top restaurant in Homer, however, very good. Aged, good quality steak always prepared how I asked. Seasonal veggies done well. A really good burger if you're on a budget. We've brought along our child many times and they've accommodated him always. If you're looking for a good steak this is the place in Homer.

Amazing food and service, love the country atmosphere. Paid $60 for Burger, fancy fries, salad, soup and calamari. There was so much food! Everyone was very nice, would highly recommend. Big portions, come hungry

Nice building, good staff, and perfectly cooked steak.

In Homer for a few days decided to go have a steak. I sat at the bar because I was by myself. Had a bloody Mary and a dark beer both were good. I ordered the 6oz filet with 6oz scallops and 1# king crab leg. Service was wonderful and attentive. The meal was delicious the steak was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth, the scallops and crab were so fresh and amazing. Great place highly recommend.

Great experience and cuisine! Steak and burger were cooked perfectly and the vegetables were crisp and fresh. Overall was a great experience! Just wish their was always mashed potatoes and not a potato of the day.

Best food in Homer, extremely good value. Had a 14oz. USDA Prime ribeye, a 6oz. grilled halibut, a Caesar salad and plenty of bread, all for less than $60. Food is very delicious and service is very friendly.

The food we oreder was really good worth the cost. Easy walk to the beach after the meal.

First... Our hamburgers and fries were truly amazing! ... But our experience was very unwelcoming. We ordered our dinner immediately instead of drinks or appetizers. Unfortunately our meal didn't show up for an hour and a half! The staff was not apologetic and then one of the meals was delivered incorrectly. I had to wait for the remainder of my meal to arrive while the rest of my meal got cold. Even though the food was very good, we will not return or recommend to others based on our very poor service! We were truly disappointed. Sigh...

Great food, good service. Best steaks in Homer, Period. Took a long time to get food. And had to wait a wile for a table, But it was a Friday.

Never had Rock fish before. It was cooked to a perfect moistness, somewhere around medium to medium rare. The fish texture was somewhere between salmon and halibut. A meaty fish. Mashed potatoes and a spear of zucchini accompanied the good sized and a thick portion of fish. It came apart in big flakes.

The best meal I've had this week in Homer. I got Rockfish with mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini. Wonderful! Cozy atmosphere, great music, personable servers, I had a wonderful chat with some visitors from New Zealand. Fun evening.

Very friendly team, excellent Steaks and the Alaska crab was the best we have tasted. We had a great time, only reason not a 5-star was the time to get our meals to the table. We would suggest settling in and enjoy the atmosphere, don’t be in a rush. Will definitely be back!

It was good. If I left this review after we walked out that night it would have been four stars but unfortunately I waited and now I am biased by other experiences. The atmosphere was nice with live piano. The wait staff was good. The food was good. It was just good. It’s a good place to go. I thought the prices were a bit high.

This summer A.J. Steakhouse catered a memorial service for my family.I couldn't of asked for anything more. We had so many people commenting on how delicious the food was. Darrell was so compassionate and understanding to our needs. He took care of us like we were "family". I didn't have to think or worry about anything. You are a definite "keeper" and deserve a 5 star rating. Thank you so much.

Steaks, seafood, and pasta all deliciously prepared and graciously served. Wonderful atmosphere, warm and classy. We have enjoyed enjoyed ending our day in Homer here many times and have never been disappointed.

This restaurant is worth every penny! For the first time in our lives, both my husband and I, feel that we received above and beyond what we paid for. I had the ribeye and my husband had prime rib, both were fork tender and flavorful. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was comfortable. We have designated AJ's as our anniversary restaurant and it will be worth the drive from Wasilla to Homer.....goodbye Suite 100 in Anchorage, you can't compete.

What a wonderful experience! We didn't call ahead, but they got us a spot at the bar. The manager was so friendly and kept talking with us and checking to make sure we were taken care of. My husband had a king crab and I had the alfredo and both were excellent. The guys on our fishing charter recommended this place and it did not disappoint!

While this location would not be my first choice for my main meal, the blue cheese fries were on point. Great starter with a cocktail is fabulous!

It was very good! If I had any criticism, it is that the busser was a little unfriendly. Asked to take our plate away in the midst of eating and the second time, not five minutes later, took it away without saying a word and we had to grab it back from her. For a $200 meal I just would think that they would not be in a such a rush to clear the table. The waitress was very sweet and attentive though.

Everything but the seafood mix was very good.

This is an old fashioned steak house with a traditional menu. They are very busy in the summer. We made a reservation but with a full dining area you will have a wait after you order. It is worth it!! The portions are just right and the menu offers fresh seafood and other entrees. Staff if welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. A must stop if you come to Homer!

The steak, shrimp and sauces were very good. There was friendly service. We will visit again when we visit Homer in the future

GIGANTIC DISAPPOINTMENT ! Came for my husbands birthday on a recommendation from a friend . Service was flighty .. brought my wrong cocktail and looked at me like I was crazy for not wanting what she brought . Ordered the 2 special steaks . Prime Rib and house ribeye for my husband . She brought the wrong steak for him and admitted fault , but not being the type to waste my husband ate the strip . My prime rib was tough and needed hours more love before serving . When the waitress brought the check she acted like it was discounted by 20% but anyone knows a strip steak is at least 20% less cost than a good ribeye ! Though I mentioned it at my reservation no one even mentioned my husbands birthday ! We won’t return to this establishment ..A real shame for a local too.

Delicious food and great service! I had beef filet and scallops and my husband had the AJ Burger and delicious fries. All cooked perfectly!

Feels like home. AJ (or a reasonable facsimile) came out to greet us and was as friendly as can be. Wedge to match Morton's. Halibut and chips came with crispy shoestring for days, and the fish itself was perfectly crunchy and the right combination of moist and flaky. My Flintstones-sized prime rib came with eye-waterinf horseradish and a nice jus. We will be back!

We've eaten just about everything on the menu & have ALWAYS gotten excellent food & great service! Darryl their head guy is excellent & strives to give the customer their best experience ever! Highly recommend it!

Food was delicious. Restaurant atmosphere is awesome, I love the live music and the cozy feel it has. The service was beyond exceptional and I will be returning!

Wonderful, neat place. Service, food excellent. A VERY good experience. We even were entertained by a lovely woman playing the piano. Highly recommend this restaurant.
